Festival poster drawn by Apopka-area 5th grader, Cherie Michaud
Award-winning poster promoting the 2000 Apopka Festival by Cherie Michaud, 5th grader at Rock Springs Elementary School.

Apopka Art and Foliage Festival

This major community festival, attracting 25,000 visitors annually, began as a small club event in 1961. Each year, the Apopka Woman's Club has sponsored the event. Held at the Kit Land Nelson Park, the festival in 2000 showcased the work of 150 artisans and crafters, and the top foliage growers from Central Florida, who competed for ribbons and prizes. Entertainment was provided by local schools, church, and community groups. Among the most popular events each year are the local nursery tours, which provide a first-hand look at the foliage industry. The foliage and blooming plants are available for purchase from the nurseries that have made Apopka the "Indoor Foliage Capital of the World."

The Apopka Woman's Club, which was chartered in 1957, provides members with opportunities to develop skills and talents, and to participate in programs that benefit the community. The club has donated thousands of dollars and work hours to the community. Its fundraisers benefit schools, homeless shelters, community health centers, senior citizens, the Habitat for Humanity, and the Special Olympics.

Documentation includes a three-page text describing the 1998 festival and its sponsor; a newspaper article and a festival supplement.
