Scientific Creativity: The Legacy of Science Education in Southwest Missouri

The project documents segments of the 1999 Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics Conference held on the campus of Southwest Missouri State University. Photographs and interviews with scientists, educators, parents, and students are included. Students who attended earlier conferences and were influenced to pursue science and mathematics are also documented. The history of the conference, now 25 years old, is documented with newspaper clippings, personal stories, and promotional material. A broader focus looks at the history of science education and the teaching of future scientists in Springfield since the teachers' college was established in 1905. University and historical society archives provide background, and interviews with emeritus science faculty and alumni are included.
