Cityfolk Festival
This June festival, held in an eight-block
area in downtown Dayton, brought more than a hundred of the
country's finest folk musicians, dancers, and craftspeople
together for three days to showcase their arts and crafts.
During the festival, Chinese folk dancers and
musicians periodically led lion dance parades through the streets.
Special venues during the festival included a family arts center
where children made banners, and an Ohio craft masters program. On
the courthouse stage, a variety of musical and dance genres
performed. Among the variety of music was Dayton's Rhythm in Shoes,
the Native American ensemble Ulali, the Jerry Grcevich Tamburitza
Orchestra, and the French Canadian Celtic musicians, Bourque,
Bernard and Lepage. The dance pavilion was among the most popular
venues, especially when zydeco, ska, and Latin music were
performed. Other highlights were the 45-member gospel singers, the
Delegation Mass Choice; and cowboy poet, humorist, and singer Gary
McMahan.
Documentation includes 10 slides and a five-page
report.
