Scripps Institute of Oceanography
Videotape and text material document the San Diego
institute's important role in scientific research since its
founding in 1903. For nearly 100 years, Scripps scientists have
conducted a continuous search on the seas and in the laboratory for
knowledge about the planet's environment. As part of the University
of California, San Diego, Scripps provides graduate training,
conducts scientific research in the ocean and atmosphere, and
offers outreach to the community, especially through the informal
science education program of its Birch Aquarium.
Along with videotapes of the Institute's Exploration
series, project documentation includes several issues of its
Explorations periodical, materials on the Birch Aquarium, a
Research Overview of Scripps Institute, "Legacy of Exploration," a
history of the Institute, fact sheets and miscellaneous
brochures.
