Aloha Festivals

This annual statewide festival series celebrates the pageantry of ancient Hawaiian culture and today's multiculturalism. It formed in 1946 as Aloha Week, but it now runs for two months. In 1999, more than 30,000 volunteers helped put on 300 events on six islands. Attendance was about one million. The theme was "Hui Pu I Ka Hula" -- "together in song and dance" -- chosen to strengthen awareness of cultural heritage. Aloha is documented in a videotape, background text, 30 slides, posters, a brochure, and souvenir buttons.
