Moja Arts Festival

A celebration of African-American and Caribbean arts and culture, the 17th annual Moja Arts Festival will be held in Charleston September 22 through October 1, 2000. Moja is the Swahili word for "one", and its appearance in the name refers to the harmony in diversity that is the theme of the festival. The wide range of events includes visual arts, classical music, jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues, theater, poetry, storytelling, dance, children's activities, traditional crafts, and ethnic food. An educational component includes the Black Inventions Museum. The popular Palmetto Invitational Band Classic, showcasing some 1,500 high school and college band musicians, returns for a fifth appearance in 2000.
