*Friday* - March 4, '44
Evenin', darling!
How are you tonight? Just came back to find the whole hut sleeping - but it's time to be with you - so here I am back in my well-lit johnny! Was a quiet day - had to appear for that Court Martial at 10 this morning and the damn thing didn't come off until 3:00 this afternoon - per navy per usual! So I loafed in front of an open fire all day - listened to the B.B.C - and caught two rebroadcasts from America - Charlie McCarthy's program and Command Performance. Was cozy as a bug in the rug - read the Saturday Evening Post of early January from cover to cover! The illustrations were punk. I guess they're really waiting for Junie's baby to come back home! Can't wait, Snoon - I'm so darn anxious to get going for *us* - this *single* business over here is dull as hell! The day was unusual for just *one* thing - tonite I broke out my watercolors for the first time - and got sompin'! Beginner's luck! Did a scene from downtown in a city nearby by memory - played with the dusk and the funny effects of flashlights on a darkening city. Was great fun - but most important it broke the ice with the color angle - I've been kind of shying away from it and pushing my pencil sketching.
