Junie, darling,
I saw Eddie Cantor in "Show Business" tonight - and it was grand. I enjoyed it so very much. Isn't it ridiculous how shows like that and the songs that Cantor does so well make me nostalgic - me who wasn't even born then?! But it was swell.
After the movie I wandered into the office and met Schmitt, one of our lads who just returned from a seven day leave in London. There's something very appealing in the kid - and we've always found it very easy to talk together. He's a blond, blue-eyed kid - with kind of a suggestion of a Jewish nose. Whether he's one of the tribe or not I rather doubt But we've always understood each other very well. He was pretty disturbed and kind of blue - and he was hurt. He showed me the mail that had come through while he was on his leave. I didn't want to read his letters - and I told him so. But he told me what they were - three very good friends ^(girls) ever since he was a kid have married since he's been away. It was a tough and unhappy coincidence that they should have had their three respective letters arrive in a batch. Each one told him not to write anymore since they're now married.
