Hubert Watt knew he was in for a rough time of it when he and his buddies heard Tokyo Rose announce details of their invasion of the Pacific island of Peleliu before the fighting even began. He was part of a transport company whose trucks were the most difficult pieces of equipment to get ashore. Even in the midst of the daily fighting, Watt did manage to come up with a humorous experience when he got lost driving around the island one night with a load of illuminating mortars-in the pitch dark, with his lights off to avoid attracting attention from the enemy.
