The veteran was a member of the Army Aviation Hall of Fame and the Army Field Experimentation Hall of Fame. He received the Doughboy Award for his contributions to combat infantry and was nominated for the West Point Distinguished Graduates Award. He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and made 4 jumps behind enemy lines including Sicily, Salerno, and Holland. He saw combat in Italy, Belgium and Germany.
