The veteran volunteered for flight school and was part of a Troop Carrier Squadron. He flew in the Berlin Air Lift in 1948. He flew 156 missions, piloting B-29s and then B-50s. Veteran flew over the USSR on photograph recon missions and was hit by an MIG17 during one of these operations. Veteran flew missions over to Vietnam and was a base commander for a B-52 squadron.
