Dear Mom and Dad,
I received your letter of June 9 and the Sporting News of June 10. The Sporting News doesn't take long. I'm going to the USO show in about an hour.
As usual it's raining. I don't think it will ever stop.
Dress uniform? What's that? When you develop the negatives I sent you'll see my dress uniform. Wait, I'm going to get some pictures taken in my rain suit if possible.
My jeep doesn't look good for the inspection.
The jeep drivers in the battalion do only one thing, drive a jeep - I have to drive a jeep, lay wire trouble-shoot lines, operate a radio, operate a switchboard and still do all the other liaison work such as maps, fire plans, patrol planes, line checks, radio checks, supply the outposts. Wow! I'm tired just naming them. With all these jobs they still expect me to keep a shiny jeep. They don't know do they? Never hatchie!!
I suppose it will seem odd to drive a car when I get home. These jeeps knock a guy's kidneys loose on these bumpy roads. They're too darn light
Did Ron get a job? Where did he look? If he got one, what does he do? How much does he make for a start.
What are you having done to the house? I have to know. I'd hate to come and get lost, then I'd have to re-enlist for another tour in Korea. You wouldn't want that to happen would you?
Since I've been a liaison, I've been shelled with 76-82 and 122 mm rounds. Yesterday the Chinks started something new. 203 mm Wow!! That's big!! It doesn't worry me though but I sure had to laugh when they came in the battery. Those guys never got shelled before and used to razz me when I told them I got shelled one the lines. Man!! You never saw so many guys running around, shitting in their drawers. Those rounds weren't even close to us. We were in the motor pool and the rounds hit the other end of the battery. These guys expected "combat pay'. Hell! Someone farts back there and they push a "panic button."
Well, I've got to go to the show now. It ought to be good even if it is out in the rain.
