To: Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission Colonel-General D.A. Volkogonov CENTRAL STATE ARCHIVE OF THE SOVIET ARMY (TsGASA) 29 ADMIRAL MAKAROV ST., MOSCOW, 125884 24 August 92 No. 120 Ref No. ________
Dear Dmitrij Antonovich,
Per the information disclosure plan, I am reporting to you that in the fonds of the Russian State Military Archives (b. TsGASA) there is a series of documents concerning foreign prisoners of war and internees who were on USSR territory between 1939 and 1945.
In the course of researching an official assignment, lists of people with Anglo-American surnames were uncovered.
We are sending you xerox copies of these documents and hope that they will be of use in your work. [handwritten "6 pages"]
We must also inform you that statistical and biographic documents are stored on Japanese, Finnish, Swedish, German, Austrian, Polish, English, American, French, Lithuanian and other prisoners of war (name lists, questionnaires, short biographies, letters, route maps, prisoner of war transfer documents, etc) in the fonds of several of the Central Directorates of the Red Army, Directorates and Units of the Internal and Convoy forces of the NKVD.
Research of this entire series of documentation is a rather time-consuming job and may be completed by the archival staff in 1993.
