- You may wish to include a study of what newspapers
of the 1930s reveal about family life during the Great Depression. March
6, 1933, is a particularly good date to use, since on this day, three
of the headlines are:
"Roosevelt orders a 4-day bank
holiday, puts embargo on gold, calls Congress,"
"Hitler Bloc wins a Reich majority; rules
in Prussia,"
"Bewildered city [New York] still pays in
cash."
