<p>Rest, Noble Chieftain. Song on the Death of President Lincoln.</p>

<p>Rest noble Chieftain, sweet be thy sleep <lb>
And over thy grave a Nation shall weep; <lb>
Thy voice may be mute and palsied thy hand, <lb>
But thy spirit still lives in the heart of the land. <lb>
The fair tree of Freedom shall flourish and bloom <lb>
When long thou hast slept enshrin&apos;d in the tomb, <lb>
And the songs of the free shall brighten thy name <lb>
When monarchs are dead and perish&apos;d their fame. <lb>
When monarchs are dead and perish&apos;d their fame.</p>

<p>Rest noble Chieftain, mighty and brave! <lb>
Peaceful thy sleep and hallow&apos;d thy grave; <lb>
No sound shall disturb thy quiet repose, <lb>
While o&apos;er thee shall grow the myrtle and rose. <lb>
Thy mission was ended; Heav&apos;n call&apos;d thee away <lb>
When over the land peace shed its sweet ray; <lb>
May joy e&apos;er be thine in glory above, <lb>
Where naught reigns but freedom, mercy and love, <lb>
Where naught reigns but freedom, mercy and love.</p>
