<p>Requiem.</p>

<p>Toll ye bells a solemn dirge, <lb>
Earth shall join the sad refrain; <lb>
And the sea&apos;s remotest surge, <lb>
Moan for Freedom&apos;s champion slain. <lb>
Veil thy radiance glowing sun; <lb>
Moon and stars go out in gloom; <lb>
Weep ye skies for hopes undone, <lb>
Weep a kingly patriot&apos;s doom. <lb>
Banner worshiped by the brave <lb>
Fairest ensign of the free, <lb>
With thy sable emblems wave, <lb>
Drooping low and mournfully.</p>

<p>Oh ye vales and verdant isles! <lb>
How can beauty gild ye so? <lb>
Why should ye be dress&apos;d in smiles, <lb>
When our human heart o&apos;erflow? <lb>
Is it some celestial beam <lb>
From the gates of Paradise? <lb>
Is it Heaven&apos;s refulgent gleam, <lb>
Half revealed to mortal eyes?</p>

<p>Wide unfold your scenes of light, <lb>
Glorious realm, no pen can paint. <lb>
Welcome him ye throngs in white, <lb>
Crown him Hero, Martyr, Saint. <lb>
Crown him Hero, Martyr, Saint.</p>
