<p>Know all men by these presents that I Verlinda Smith of the city and county of Washington and District of Columbia for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid by Richard Smith Esq of the said city count &amp; district for George Poe of Mobile Alabama at or before the sealing and delivery hereof of receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have granted bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said George Poe his heirs executors administrators and assigns one negro woman named Nancy aged thirty years and her two children named Eliza Ann aged 10 years and Louisa aged eight years to have and to hold the said negro slaves forever</p>

<p>In testimony whereof  <omit reason="illegible" extent="1 word"> have unto set my hand and seal this 21st day of December 1829 <lb>

<p>On this 21st day of December 1829 before me one of the justices of the peace in and for the county aforesaid appears Verlinda Smith and acknowledges the foregoing instrument to be <omit reason="illegible" extent="1 word"> actr and deed according to the true intent and manning thereof and the act of assembly in such cases made &amp; provided <lb>

I William Brent, clerk of the circuit court of the District of Columbia for the county of Washington, hereby certify, that James Ord, esquire, before whom the within acknowledgement appears to have been made, and who has thereto subscribed his name, as at the time thereof, and still is, a justice of the Peace in and for the county aforesaid, duly commissioned and sworn; and to his acts as such, full faith and credit and ought to be given, as well in courts of Justice as there out.</p>

<p>In testimony whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name and <omit reason="illegible" extent="1 word"> the seal of the said circuit court, for the county aforesaid, at the city of Washington this 21st of December 1829</p>
