Speeches, reports, and letters to the White House showcase President Coolidge's accomplishments, principally in a variety of economic areas: the farm economy and agriculture, the Federal Budget System, tax reduction and reform, and reduction of the national debt, as well as his handling of the residue of the Teapot Dome oil scandal from President Harding's term of office. Many of the items pertain to the 1924 presidential campaign. Documents include a typescript of the president's special message to Congress on January 23, 1924; excerpts from the president's speech on Lincoln's birthday, 1924, before the National Republican Club of New York; remarks given by the Hon. Martin B. Madden (Republican, of Illinois) in the House of Representatives on "The Fiscal Record of the Republican Party," outlining the government expenditures and surplus for 1924 and the estimated surplus for 1925; a printed copy of President Coolidge's speech before the seventh regular meeting on June 30, 1924, of the Business Organization of the Government at Memorial Continental Hall; a speech by Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon given on October 11, 1928, highlighting Republican accomplishments on behalf of Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover's presidential campaign; and the items listed below.
