I wa$ born near Broad River • in de Blair $ection. I belonged in slavery to de Blair ~ami1y. My mudder and papa was Grace and Samuel Blair, and dey belonged to Capt. Blair. When dey was sold, I wa.~ put in de house wid a good f‘ree ni~er woman to raise me and to atay ~til1 de war was over. Den I come to de Blair house, and tielped around de house. My sisters could card, epin and weave, and I helped dem wid it. I didn‘t have but one dress. When lt got dirty, I went down to de creek arid washed it and put it against de lima to dry, but I had to put it back on before it got good dry. ~ •1 got old~ enoti~h, I worked in de field, hoe1ri~ and picking cotton.“ .
