Microsoft Word Viewer 97

Word Viewer allows users who do not have Microsoft Word for Windows® to view and print documents created in theWord native file format. Word Viewer 97 allows users to zoom, outline, or view page layout, headers/footers, footnotes, and annotations.

Follow the Installation instructions detailed on the Microsoft site.

Configure your browser to automatically open Word documents using the Viewer.

  • Open your browser
  • Choose Options/General Preferences/Helpers (in NN 3.0; NN 4.0 it's Edit/Preferences/Applications)
  • Select "application/msword" and extension "doc"
  • Choose Action: Launch the Application and Browse to the wordview.exe (default location is C:\PROGRAM FILES\WORDVIEW)
  • Choose Okay

Corel WordPerfect Viewer Plug-In

ThumbsPlus Image Viewer

ThumbsPlus is a useful graphic viewer created for the Windows 95 environment. It is distributed as shareware.

Docuview Image Viewer
Docuview is an image viewer frequently used with a Web browser to view .TIF files and .PCX files. For more information, check out the American Memory Viewer Information page.

Panorama SGML Document Viewer
For more information or to download a freeware version - http://www.oasis-open.org/cover/publicSW.html#panorama. This is version 1.0. Currently 2.0 is not availlable online.

Panorama is a Netscape browser plug-in viewer for SGML documents that allows users to view longer and more complex files. Documents displayed in Panorama contain navigation which allows the user to jump around within long selections and within complete books on-line.

This software should be part of your standard NDL configuration.

NotesPad ASCII Text Editor

NotesPad screen shotNotesPad is an alternate text editor created for the Windows 95 environment. It is freely distributed as freeware. Unlike the MS Windows NotePad ASCII text editor, NotesPad can open larger documents (like our SGML documents), allows you to open up to 10 documents at once, and uses an interface resembling that of Internet Explorer.

One particularly useful feature of NotesPad is the ability to display line and column numbers - very handy when looking for errors.

SoftQuad Author/Editor 3.5

Softquad Author/EditorAuthor/Editor is available for the creation and modification of original SGML documents.
NOTE: Author/Editor does not deal with the declaration subset in the American Memory TEI header.

RulesBuilder is an ASCII editor included with Author/Editor. It is used to compile a "rules" file for Author/Editor. It is designed to work with Author/Editor but can be used alone to view and edit ASCII files (e.g., SGML).

File Transfer - TOP -

CuteFTP
 CuteFTP is a Windows-based Internet application that allows users to utilize the capabilities of FTP without having to know all the details of the protocol itself.

WARNING: Cute FTP does not adequately preserve directory structures when re-uploading items. In other words, it will not allow a user to overwrite existing files within a directory structure. We STRONGLY recommend production teams use WS_FTP LE, instead.
 

WS_FTP LE
Download the WS_FTP LE.EXE file (RIGHT CLICK and SAVE LINK AS) to download WS_FTP LE. Double click on the downloaded file to install. (you can do this most easily using Windows Explorer).

Things you'll need to know for using WS_FTP LE with NDL servers:

  • your RS6 account and password (usually, same as your Banyan name and password)
  • where to FTP to: Host name = rs6
  • directory structure
  • modify your settings to ensure lower-case filenames
    In WS_FTP LE
    Before you log in:
    -Choose Options
    -Choose Session Options
    -Click Force Lowercase, Click Save
    -Choose Connect to set a Session Profile and log in to the server.
