In the Criminal Court of Cook County, Illinois, City of Chicago, the Sheriff of Cook County returned the venire issued by the court for jurors to serve on the grand jury. Twenty-three men were sworn to serve on the grand jury.

State of Illinois, COOK COUNTY. ss.

PLEAS before a branch of the CRIMINAL COURT OF COOK COUNTY, in said County and State, at a term thereof begun and held at the Criminal Court House, in the City of Chicago, in said County, on the first Monday, (being the third day) of may, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six and of the Independence of the United States the one hundred and tenth

PRESENT: HONORABLE John D. Rogers Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, and Ex Officio Judge of the Criminal Court of Cook County.

Seth F. Hanehett Sheriff of Cook County.

Be it remembered, to wit: on the seventeenth day of May in the year last aforesaid, it being the term of Court aforesaid, the following, among other proceedings, were had and entered of record in said Court, which said proceedings are in the words and figures following, to wit:

The Sheriff of Cook County returned into Court the Venire Facias heretofore issued for a Grand Jury for this term and returnable this day, by which it appears that the following named persons have been duly cummoned to appear this day and serve as Grand Jurors at the present term of this Court, to-wit:

William Bartels Fred Wilkinson P.J.Moloney John Held A.J.Grover Frank N.Seavert E.A.Jessel Theodore Schultz Alfred Thorpe N.J.Webber George Adams Fred Gall Adolph Wilke Joseph Conley R.Roche and Joseph Rosenbaum, who upon being called answered severally to their respective names.

Where upon the Court announced that excuses would be heard and Joseph Conley R. Roche and Joseph Rosenbaum having presented sufficient excuses to the Court, were excused from service as Grand Jurors.

And there now being but seventeen persons left upon the panel, the Court ordered that a Special Venire issue out of this Court commanding the Sheriff of Cook County to summon from the body of Cook County six persons possessing the qualifications as jurors as required by law to fill the panel of said Grand Jury, and the Sheriff having summoned John N.Hills John M.Clark Edward S.Dreyer John C.Neemes, W.J.Quan and T.W.Hall to fill said panel, and the panel of said Grand Jury being now filled and upon calling over the lists of Grand Jurors, the following named persons answered severally to their respective names and gave their personal attendance as a Grand Jury in and for the body of Cook County at the present term of this Court to wit:

George Watts, Peter Clinton Charles Schultz Thomas Broderick, William Bartels, Fred Wilkinson P.J.Moloney John Held A.J.Grover Frank N.Seavert, E.A.Jessel Theodore Schultz Alfred Thorpe N.J.Webber George Adams Fred Gall Adolph Wilke John N.Hills John M.Clark Edward S.Dreyer, John C.Neemes W.J.Quan and T.W.Hall.

And the Court having now here appointed John N. Hills Esquire Foreman of said Grand Jury, the said Grand Jurors were duly sworn and charged by the Court and thereupon retire to consider of their presentments.

And afterwards to wit: On the fourth day of June in the year last aforesaid, it being the term of Court last aforesaid, the following among other proceedings, were had and entered of record in said Court, which said proceedings are in the words and figures following, to wit:

On this fourth day of June A.D. 1886, it being the Term of Court aforesaid, the Grand Jury came into open Court and made a certain presentment in writing, which said presentment, with all the endorsements thereon, is by order of the Court, entered of Record, and is in the words and figures following, to wit:
