Francis Hopkinson to the New Jersey Assembly

Sir, Philada. l9th. Novr. 1776
Congress having thought proper to honour me with an appointment inconsistent with my Seat in the House, & which will necessarily occasion my Removal from Jersey, I am under a Necessity of resigning my Delegation from the State of Jersey, & of requesting your Honourable House to appoint some other Person to take my Place as speedily as possible, otherwise your State will not be represented in Congress, there being at present no other Delegate here from Jersey but myself.(1)
I am fully sensible of the Honour New Jersey hath done me in committing so high a Trust to my Charge, I can only say that I have endeavoured to discharge that Trust to the best of my Abilities, & shall upon all Occasions be happy in seizing every Opportunity of shewing my Zeal for the Honour & Advantage of the State of New Jersey.
I beg my most respectful Regards to your Honourable House & am, Your most obedient, Humble servant,

Fras Hopkinson

P.S. The Loan Office Certificates being now almost ready for Emission, it is hoped your House will immediately appoint the officer for your State & forward his Name to Congress, that proper Advertisements of the opening of this office may be forthwith made.
