Tap dance numbers include Astaire's solo, "Audition Dance" ; "I'm Old-fashioned" with Hayworth; "The Shorty George" a screwball jazz step of the time that Astaire interprets with limp arms, bent knees and shuffle in place, and which becomes elaborated in a duet; and the final "You Were Never Lovelier" a duet with Hayworth that begins with a brilliant series of traveling and turning skips and hops and then contrasted with earthy leg jabs; a spiraling double-helix spin leaves the partners swirling in rhythm.
