Southern Enchantment Hogan, Ernest performer Theatrical Performance 1902-11-10 Star Theater A black ensemble known as The Smart Set was responsible for Southern Enchantment. The action takes place in Hawaiian Swelldom, where a trusting George Washington Bullion comes searching for a long-lost sweetheart. He meets up with a con man, Grafton Smoothe, and is inducted into the Order of the Royal Rooster before he finds both his girl and unexpected wealth. Ernest Hogan, the black comedian who always performed without stereotypical make-up, played Bullion and wrote much of the music, including his encore-earning "A Missionary Man."
