Summary: Subtitled a portrait of the jazz and tap dancer, the film documents a week spent by members of the Copasetics in New Paltz, New York and begins with rehearsals in Jerry LeRoy's rehearsal studio in New York City, and then moves to New Paltz with segments of rehearsals, workshops, performances, informal reminiscences, and more formal interviews with the dancers about their careers and those of other great tap dancers including Bill Robinson and Baby Laurence. Among the memorable segments of the film include: Honi Coles teaches the Shim Sham Shimmy; Bubba Gaines and Cookie Cook rehearse the "Stair Dance" and talk about its creator, Bill Robinson; interviews and performance by the comedy team of Cook and Brown; dialogue and trade-offs and routines with Honi Coles and the Copasetics. Members of the Copasetics are soloists and masters in their own right who joined together in 1949 in memory of the late Bill Robinson.
