The Gregory Hines Collection of American Tap Dance Hill, Constance Valis performer Waag, Tony performer Nichols, Madeline performer Social Event 2005-05-12 The American Tap Dance Foundation, in partnership with the Jerome Robbins Dance Division of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center at Lincoln Center celebrate the naming of The Gregory Hines Colletion of American Tap Dance as a Major Collection in the Dance Division. This event will be hosted by Director Tony Waag and tap historian Constance Valis Hill of the American Tap Dance Foundation, with introductions to the screenings by Madeleine Nichols, Director of the Dance Division, recent donors, tap dance historians, and others, and will include screenings of tap dance from the Collections recent additions, as well as archival films of tap dance that have been preserved in the Dance Division. Founded by The American Tap Dance Foundation, and dedicated to preserving the history of tap dance, America's oldest vernacular dance form, The Gregory Hines Collection of American Tap Dance (atdfhinescollection.org) was organized to provide a broad introduction to the history of tap dance in America that will assist anyone interested in researching tap dance in the Dance Division and in libraries internationally. The Collection offers a chronological and comprehensive history of American Tap Dance, highlighting selected materials in the Dance Division; and it gathers national and international donations of tap dance materials (videotapes, films, photographs, programs, clippings, reviews, and oral histories).
