<mods:abstract>La Cave on First
(1125 First Avenue, SW corner 62nd Street, New York City)
Jimmy Slyde begins to host weekly Wednesday evening tap dance performances and jams, at La Cave, a bar/restaurant with a French & soul cuisine, which attracted and nurtured such young artists as Roxane "Butterfly" Semadini, Max Pollak, Herbin Van Cayseele., Savion Glover, and many others.

An early flier read:
La Cave on First proudly presents "Steppin' Time with Time Steppin'": Jimmy Slyde with Young Lions and Guests from the Dance World!! Back by popular demand: Bros Townsend, piano; Bob Cunningham, bass; Bill Wurtzel, guitar. Wednesday nites. Showtimes: 9:00 PM & 11 PM.

Jazz clubs always served as important places for improvisation and the development of new talent. Jimmy Slyde's residency at La Cave became the training ground for such tap artists as Pollak, Van Porter, and Savion Glover.</mods:abstract>
