Jazz Tap Ensemble introduced its first Monk piece to the repertory in 1986 at the Joyce Theatre. "Groove" was created for the Jazz Tap Ensemble in 1998 by Gregory Hines and premiered at the Joyce Theatre and Ford Theatre in Los Angeles in 1999 with Hines as a surprise guest. - Source
