<mods:abstract>A musical comedy in two acts, 15 scenes. Book by Peter Stone. Based on the film "Some Like It Hot" by Billy Wilder and I. A. L. Diamond. Music by Jules Styne. Lyrics by Bob Merrill. Opened 9 April 1972 at the Majestic Theatre and closed 23 June 1973 after 505 performances.

Cast: Sheila Smith (Sweet Sue), Alan Kass (Joe), Tony Roberts (Jerry), Robert Morse (Jerry), Cyril Richard (Osgood Fielding, Jr.). Steve Condos plays Spats Palazzo.

Spat's Gang: Andy Bew, Roger Bigelow, Gene Cooper, Arthur Faria, Gene GeBauer, John Mineo, Don Percassi.

"Steve Condos as the fiercely tap dancing all Chicago hood; the tricky knuckle-snap footwork of Steve Condos is gratifying in itself."

"Most of the time Mr. Champion is content either to put a regulation 1931 chorus line to work on the tunes--canes, frock coats, hats made of musical notes-- or to let the songs dwindle to an unusual number of twosomes...Champion makes a good try at handling what was always a ticklish business-- the gunning down of rival gangsters by Spats and friends, garish stuff for light light comedy. The initial image is striking: weapons and men rising in silhouette under a skylight on the tops of the car-stalls in a Chicago garage. The attack is promising: the gunmen are going to execute their threats and their triumphant satisfaction is fast taps. But somehow we expect that the killing will be done musically and choreographically, too, and the actual chatter of guns lets us down a bit-- through the tricky knuckle-snap footwork of Steve Condos and friends is gratifying in itself." (Kerr, New York Times 4/16/1972)

Phil Black (who would become a celebrated jazz and tap teacher for over 30 years, owner of his own studio at 50th and Broadway in New York, Broadway Dance Center) also appeared in the musical, though not on opening cast, and would tour with star Mickey Rooney.

"Tear the Town Apart" (dance) S. Condo , Spats' Gang
