Cohan took a second of his vaudeville sketches and expanded it into a full evening's musical comedy entertainment about a man, John Tiger (Jerry Cohan) who decides to marry even though he is in the middle of a campaign for the mayor of Tigerville (he has been a widower for 15 years). Even though Cohan's unique stylized dances became one of his trademarks, in "Running for Office" the airy dancing of Ethel Levey and the lively stepping of a chorus of "unusual sprightliness and good looks" were singled out for most praise. Opened 27 April 1903 at the 14th Street Theatre and closed 6 June 1903 after 48 performances.
