Book by Sam and Bella Spewack. Suggested by William Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew." Music and Lyrics by Cole Porter. Choreography by Hanya Holm. Opened 30 December 1948 at the New Century Theatre, moved 31 July 1950 to the Sam S. Shubert Theatre and closed 28 July 1951 after 1077 performances. Charles Cook and Brownie Brown appeared sometimes during the run of this musical. They are not listed in the opening program but the show's long run it is probable that they were added as replacement for, perhaps, members of the the male chorus, or as specialty dancers in roles that originated with Fred Davis and Eddie Sledge. Cookie tells the story of an incident in Memphis, TN with the show, while performing "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" so perhaps they toured with the show.
