<mods:abstract>This is Show Business first telecast 7/15/1949 on CBS-TV. The exact date of Bates' appearance is unclear.

In this, Peg Leg Bates' first television performance on "This Is Show Business" (hosted by Clifton Fadiman and Arlene Francis), Bates, the virtuosic monoped dancer, performs his classic "White Suit Dance." Bates' dancing career did not begin with television--he was dancing on Broadway by the 1930s--but television helped give him the greater notoriety he eventually achieved.

Bates performs high speed paddle-and roll tapping and balancing his rubber-tipped peg as if it were a ballet pointe slipper.

    This is Show Business:
    July 1949-September 1949 CBS Fridays 9-10
    October 1949-January 1953 CBS Sundays 7-8:00 (Off season)</mods:abstract>
