Rockettes' Last Tap Dance at Radio City Music Hall The Rockettes performer Holmes, Violet performer Theatrical Performance 1978-04-12 Radio City Music Hall The last performance of the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, as they "make ready to go out kicking, high kicking at precisely eye level." The Radio City Music Hall announced its closing in January 1978; April 12 the last day the Rockettes will do the last tap dance out on the ramp that goes into the audience, the ramp that hasn't been used for years. An eclectic assortment of moves from a slinky Valentino tango, the soft-shoe, an early tease of low-kick stepping, a touch of rumba and gliding jazz steps as Art Deco as the building, and high kicking: "It always ends with the high kicking" says Miss Holmes.
