Jazz Interactions at Pub Theatrical Newman, Joe performer Mabern, Harold performer McPhee, John performer Baby Laurence performer Social Event 1973-09-07 Jazz Interactions, founded by jazz trumpeter Joe Newman in the mid-sixties, and dedicated to the preservation of jazz, one of the first venues to explore possibilities of presenting jazz music in outdoor site-specific spaces. The series which presents groups free every Wednesday and Fridays from 5 to 7 PM, as long as the weather remains clement, opened by Joe Newman's quintet, with Harold Mabern on piano, Harold Vick on tenor sax, Bob Cranshaw, bass, and Sonny Brown, drums. It was at these events that the tap dancer John T. McPhee would appear with a portable tap dance floor and put up a sign reading "John T. McPhee: World's Greatest Tap Dancer" and perform.
