- Russian-born composer Nikolai Lopatnikoff (1903-1976) studied in Germany and began his career there before fleeing Europe in 1939. He first settled in New York before joining the faculty of the Carnegie Institute of Technology (later Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh, where he taught for nearly twenty-five years. He maintained ties with many émigré artists in this country. The collection contains the composer's holograph and printed scores from his Opus 1 through Opus 46, as well as works without opus number; in addition to Lopatnikoff's opera 'Danton'. Also included are letters, writings, programs, biographical materials, publicity, and photographs.
