- Russian-born composer, pianist and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) achieved fame during his lifetime for his lyrical and expressive works (including three symphonies, four piano concerti, several operas, dozens of solo piano works and solo songs, as well as choral and chamber works), influenced primarily by Russian Romanticism, as well as for his virtuosic skill as a pianist. The contents of the Rachmaninoff Archive document the composer's life and career from his arrival in the United States in 1918 to his death in 1943.
