Paducah Parks Department: Festival of Murals
This annual event is centered around a living
history drama performed in front of the murals decorating the
city's flood wall. The 20 murals themselves, the work of artist
Robert Dafford, are a rich legacy, painted to represent different
periods of Paducah's history and providing the finishing touch to
the extensive riverfront restoration of the early 90s. Held since
1997, each dramatization brings to life figures from Kentucky's
history as they step out from the murals. Other events such as a
band concert and fireworks enliven the festival. It is documented
in historical text, photographs, news clippings, brochures, and a
videotape from the 1999 festival titled
Portraits in Time
III.
