Remembering the Little Red Schoolhouse

This project includes 17 memoirs of the one-room school experience; 13 photographs of old school buildings, interiors, and students; antique school texts; archival teaching materials and state examinations for the teaching certificate; and an actual teacher's bell and old-fashioned lunch pail. An introductory essay puts the materials in a historical and geographical context, which is the rural farm country of Becker County in the first half of the 20th century. Together these materials preserve a now-vanished educational experience of a simpler time.
