International Music Camp

One of America's leading summer schools of fine arts, located at the International Peace Garden on the border between North Dakota and Manitoba, Canada, the International Music Camp brings together students and leading educators from countries all over the world. Its Music Honors Program provides high school students exposure to basic course material required for a college music major, giving them the opportunity to attain advanced standing in music literature, theory, and performance. Founded in 1956, it has steadily grown from a rustic facility of five rehearsal "huts" to a state-of-the-art campus with specialized classroom buildings and performance spaces. Among the more than 30 programs offered each year are band, orchestra, choir, dance, chamber music, percussion, guitar, handbells, creative writing, film-making, speech and debate. The IMC hosts the International Youth Band Festival and the Annual International Old-Time Fiddlers Contest, and it sponsors a Biennial Goodwill European Tour for a specially chosen band and choir. In 1998, total student registration passed the 90,000 mark.
