Dear Mom and Dad,
Tomorrow is the 4 th of July. One year ago today I got drafted. If you remember, I was so drunk when I went for the physical, they sent me home for the weekend. I didn't have to report until the 7 th of July.
I received your box yesterday. Everything was in good shape except for the potato chips. They were stale. I drank the six cans of beer last night. It really tasted a lot better than the 3.2 beer we have here in the army.
Tomorrow I'm in a parade at Division Artillery Headquarters. We're going to practice in about 30 minutes.
I got five letters from you yesterday. I'm not writing as often now because I've been too busy. When I get through at night I'm so tired I just fall asleep. I was on guard again last night. Every third night. Busy - Busy!!!
104 degrees? That's pretty damn hot. It's still raining here. Not always too hot. Today for instance, its pretty cool.
I'll write again very soon.
Love
Eddie
