Christmas Day, 1953

Dear Mom and Dad,

Merry Christmas. Wow, what a night we had last night. All together the tent consumed over a dozen bottles of Seagram's VO. They went wild.

I got a box from the Chicago Tribune containing an air mattress, a few books and a fruitcake. One sure wouldn't expect such a package. I didn't get drunk last night but the night before last I really went to town. I've got a cold so after supper I was going to have a few snorts then go to bed. I ended up so drunk I passed out. Wow! Everyone else feels pretty bad this morning. My buddy Joe kept crawling up the tent and sticking his head through the vent yelling "Merry Christmas- Ho-Ho-Ho". He thought he was St. Nick. He isn't too jolly today. One of the guys was on guard. He passed out and shit in his pants. I hear he drank some shaving lotion, lighter fluid, beer and whiskey all mixed. Damn!

Most of the guys who made the most noise were the ones who just got here a short time ago.

It's raining now. I've got guard duty tonight. We're going to have a turkey dinner similar to the one we had Thanksgiving.

Did you go to Midnight Mass yesterday. The only thing good about Christmas is the fact that I'm going to leave in a short time.

Everyone's eyes look like two pissholes in the snow!!

I'm going to see what kind of chow we have. This afternoon I'll play a little pinochle. Till next time.
