Attracted to the challenge that serving in the Marine Corps represented, Harvey Charles Zimmerman enlisted in 2005 and was deployed to Iraq in 2006. Life with the 1st Marine Division at Al Asad Airbase in Iraq tested him in all of the ways he had expected, and then some. These continued beyond the end of his deployment; civilian life brought its own set of hurdles. Attending college on the GI Bill, he felt ancient compared to his younger classmates.
