A California native, Judas Recendez grew up in a military family, and enlisted in the Army in 2002. Severely injured during his second deployment to Iraq in 2006, he lost both his legs below the knee when his vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). During a year-long rehabilitation period at Walter Reed Medical Center, he started visiting the hospital's art center, and rediscovered his love of art, particularly ceramics. Following his recovery, he attended the Corcoran School of Arts and Design, and in his current role as a practicing ceramic artist, uses a pottery wheel adapted with a hand pump.
