Went from Georgia to Hawaii in 1940; attended special school at Fort Knox and then went on to New York; took the Queen Elizabeth to England; landed two days after D-Day and went up to Belgium; participated in the Battle of the Bulge then to Elba River; part of his advance unit liberated a concentration camp. Began fundraising for World War II Memorial in 2002.
