Civilian worked as Director of the Home Services Department of the American Red Cross, beginning in 1941; asked for overseas duty in World War II; was sent to Sydney, Australia, working in field Director's office for 2 years; was sent to Manila at war's end to work with prisoners of war (POWs) who were returning home; worked with Filipino Red Cross in preparations for Philippine independence; worked to restore programs of Japanese Red Cross in 1946; assisted Koreans recovering from Japanese occupation; was working in Japan at time of Korean War's outbreak; returned to the United States; was sent to Europe in 1954 as a Red Cross Director, promoting volunteer programs on military bases across Europe; returned to United States in 1958 to work at Red Cross Eastern Area Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia; retired from Red Cross in 1977; continued to volunteer at Red Cross for 20 years.
