20-Nov-‘65

Dear Cathy, Billy + Lisa,

Hows everyone feeling? I’m okay. It’s Saturday night about 7:30 and I’m just laying down on my bunk writting[sic] a few letters. Monday we start our first week of training. This week they finally put us in permanent barracks. I have some place to put my clothes and things now. We have a wall and foot locker to put our things in at last. There full now. I’m going to need another one with all the junk Ive got. They issued us our rifles Friday. It’s the M14, all we did was to put a strap on it and put it in a rock. I won’t be firing until my forth week. But we’ll be carrying it before then. Today they gave us our field equipment. A small tent, a poncho (sort of raincoat) tent pegs, helmets, first aid kit, canteen, mess kit, gun belt and some cases to carry them in.

We had our own black-out down
