11 April 44

Dear [Willye?];

Sorry I've been bad in my correspondence, however they've kept us very busy. Am now at Indian Springs about 60 miles from Las Vegas. Came here Mon. afternoon. Friday night we took our final comprehensive exams. Think I passed it O.K. Brown, the fellow I went into town which was washed back a week - his grades were excellent, but he didn't score quite enough in his firing. I'm sorry about that we were bosom buddies + now we are in different Sqdns. I did quite lucky in my shooting. My total score in all types of machine gun firing was in the top bracket luckily.

Yes, I'm still a flight Lt. dammit - just extra work. Got my first ride in a B-17 today - was up on a couple of flights 2 hrs each. Cripes it is bumpy over mountains. Most every body vomited or got sick - In my plane everybody got sick except me - I was having a heckuva good time is all. Went up to 17,500 ft the first time
