I honestly feel that she'll just take off one day. He'll be a mighty sad boy cause he would never see her as she really is, but he would be better off that way. Of course this is just my own prediction + between you + me.
You asked how the Russian G.I.'s dress, well almost all of them wear black boots liken to riding boots clothes light tan, long overcoats + a sort of sheepskin hat. The officers + non coms wear a tunic that fits loosely about the waist. It slips over the head + a wide black belt to complete the ensemble. They also wear soft black leather boots + loose fitting slacks tucked in the boots. The officers + non coms - some of them - have very expensive material in the uniform. The G.I.'s clothes are of very rough poor material, in contrast.
I met one Medical officer, a major, who spoke a slight smattering of English - other wise I didn't meet any who spoke English. Most of the Russians profess a speaking knowledge of Ukrainian, Russian, German, French, Roumanian [sic.], Hungarian but I later found through observation that they are great exaggerators, surpassing even the American G.I. which is, of course something. We soon learned to out boast them on most every issue. The wine they drink is; should I say, 'appropriated'? Their taste in food is a definite lean to the fat greasy type. It took some time before we could put up a display of enjoying the stuff.
