<p>THE AUTHORSHIP OF ADAM BEDE.</p>

<p>TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES,</p>

<p>Sir,&mdash;If you receive any more letters about the authorship of <hi rend="italics">Scenes of Clerical Life</hi> and <hi rend="italics">Adam Bede</hi>, will you be so kind as to publish this note?</p>

<p>Those works are not written by Mr. Liggins, or by any one with a name like Liggins, and if any person is receiving charitable contributions on the ground of being the author of the said works he is doing so under false pretences.</p>

<p>The author is known to us, and subjoined is a copy of a note we have received from him since the appearance of the letter of your correspondent &ldquo;S. G. O.&rdquo;</p>
