<p><hi rend="italics">THE SCIENCE OF BETTING</hi>.</p>

<p>TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES.</p>

<p>Sir,&mdash; As you have thought my communication to the <hi rend="italics">Pall-mall Gazette</hi> on the above subject worth republishing in your columns, will you allow me to correct a mistake in the arithmetical example? It should stand thus:&mdash;</p>

<p><hsep> <hsep> <hsep> <hi rend="underscore">1. 2.</hi> <hsep> <hi rend="underscore">3.</hi> <hsep> <hi rend="underscore">4.</hi> <hsep> <hi rend="underscore">5. 6.</hi><lb>
A <hsep> <hsep> <hsep> 2 to 3 <hsep> 5 <hsep> 6 <hsep> 12 to 18<lb>
B <hsep> <hsep> <hsep> 4 to 1 <hsep> 5 <hsep> 6 <hsep> 24 to 6<lb>
C <hsep> <hsep> <hsep> 5 to 1 <hsep> 6 <hsep> 5 <hsep> 25 to 5<lb>
D <hsep> <hsep> <hsep> 9 to 1 <hsep> 10 <hsep> 3 <hsep> 27 to 3<lb>
The Field <hsep> 14 to 1 <hsep> 15 <hsep> 2 <hsep> 28 to 2</p>

<p>The least common multiple of the third column is 30, not 60. The truth of the rule is not affected by this, as any common multiple would serve the purpose.</p>
